Stay safe around water this summer
Their advice is not to swim in canals, rivers or reservoirs – they can hold hidden dangers, such as underwater plants or pipework which could injure or trap you.
It’s safer to swim at lifeguarded beaches and pools, using appropriate safety equipment.

Hide AdConstable Stuart Cairns from Kirkintilloch police Office, said: “The warm weather looks set to continue and we know that’s when people want to cool off – if you do fancy a swim then please do so safely and be sensible around waterways.
“Playing near to water can be hazardous where banks can be steep or slippery – ensure everyone, especially children, stay SAFE – (Stay Away From the Edge).
“Remember water temperature will be colder and can send the body into shock.”
If you see someone in distress, do not jump in to help – call for help and dial 999 in an emergency. If you have a ball, throw it into the water to help keep them buoyant.
